MLS Week 29 Picks

Result Home Away
Chicago Fire Toronto FC v Chicago Fire
Sorry. I just can’t predict a win for TFC. They didn’t look bad against Portland, they just didn’t look good.
Real Salt Lake Seattle Sounders FC v Real Salt Lake
This wouldn’t be an RSL blog if I couldn’t say that they would be unable to come away with 3 points against one of the hottest teams in the MLS, at their home — a place with notoriously great supporters — and with a goalkeeper who’s one of the best in the league. Going for them is the fact that Dempsey is likely to be benched, it being only a few days after the USAvMEX game in which he’ll likely get the start, Obafemi Martins is still injuried and whether Eddie Johnson pays — plays will depend on his involvment in tonights USMNT match. This will be a tough fight (it always is against Seattle) and could easily be a draw, but I’m keeping my hopes up.
Montreal Impact Montreal Impact v Columbus Crew
Number 1 v number 8 in the eastern conference? It doesn’t take a genius to call this one. It also doesn’t hurt that they’ve lost 1 out of their last 5.
LA Galaxy D.C. United v Los Angeles Galaxy
You thought I was going to say DC, didn’t you? Didn’t you? Yeah, that’s not happening. October 1 can’t come soon enough.
New York Red Bulls New York Red Bulls v Toronto FC
See above. TFC can’t buy a win.
Draw Philadelphia Union v Houston Dynamo
There’s very little separating these two teams that are both doing really bad in the last 5 games, pitting the 1-2-2 Union against the 1-3-1 Dynamo. I’m going to say that neither team will be able to pull off a win, but it could just as easily swing to either team.
New England Revolution Chicago Fire v New England Revolution
I’m banking on the fact that the Fire will be coming off a mid-week game and haven’t been able to put the ball in the net more than twice since a 4 – 1 win against DC in July. The Revs, on the other hand, have been finding the net, even when they lose, as evidenced by the 4 – 2 loss vs. Montreal last week.
Colorado Rapids Colorado Rapids v FC Dallas
Having beaten the former MLS Cup champions last week, I’m betting the Rapids will be riding a confidence wave that can keep them ahead of a struggling FC Dallas team who will be playing in Colorado.
Draw Chivas USA v Portland Timbers
Not that the Stub Hub Center is a fortress or anything, but Chivas (and Portland, for that matter) has been really good at pulling away a draw when they should lose. I’d like to say Chivas will win this one, but Portland has too good of a team right now for me to think that they wouldn’t pull it back. No matter how good Eric Torres is, he’s still one player.
San Jose Earthquakes San Jose Earthquakes v Vancouver Whitecaps
Last week I said they’d lose and the Whitecaps would draw. Well the ‘Quakes won and the ‘Caps lost, so that’s how I’m calling this meetup. Watch it finish level.
